Breathe New Life Into The Customer Journey
18 Feb 2020 at 10:35am
Business struggle to gain a holistic customer view — the skills to identify actionable insights from multichannel data are in short supply. If they could gain a holistic view of customer attributes and behaviors, they could make sure they get the right content at the right time.
If you want your customers to enjoy seamless, personalized experiences, you need to treat them like people. That means marketing to the person — not the device. When you know a customer’s interests, wants, and needs — perhaps even before they do — you’ve succeeded at becoming a true experience business. For some, this may require a shift from analytics as a tool to analytics as a way of life. It may also mean evolving corporate or office culture.
Multidisciplinary Simulation and Design Exploration in the Oil and Gas Industry
18 Feb 2020 at 12:00am
While these approaches remain important, the rise of simulation-based design offers engineers the opportunity to explore designs and system operation digitally through detailed, accurate prediction of a wide range of physical and chemical behavior. Downhole tool optimization Subsea and flow assurance risk reduction Offshore and marine design Technical safety Process equipment design performance
Using multiphysics simulation, it is possible to predict a wide range of physical behavior with a high degree of fidelity in even the most complex scenarios. Multiphase flows, complex heat transfer, fluid-structure interaction and chemical reactions can all be simulated within a single, integrated software package. In addition, automated design space exploration enables optimized designs to be found more quickly, even when a significant number of design and operating variables exist.
In this special report we present how engineers and scientists from leading oil and gas companies are deploying Siemens’ simulation software in the design and operation of a range of oil and gas products and systems. A diverse range of applications and challenges are discussed including:
Technical innovation is the key to the future of the oil and gas industry. Siemens’ simulation software is enabling engineers to rise to this challenge.

These materials form the basis of new functionalities in a host of other industries: from touch sensitive glass for smartphones, corrosion inhibitors for oil pipelines, paints and foams for automobiles to carbon fibers for aircraft. Freedom to test novel concepts to meet process needs Ideas and solutions can be tested under actual operating conditions and scales Scale-up of processes from preliminary design and pilot scale knowledge
In the 1980s, new numerical analysis methods were developed, led by the aerospace and automobile industries. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) allowed engineers to test their “raw” designs and verify them without building physical prototypes. Since then, significant research has advanced the micro-scale models and enabled a deeper and wider application, especially in combustion reactions. Developments for many other processes such as crystallization or lyophilization, are also ongoing in academic circles. This rapid pace of research has been reflected in Siemens’ rapid development of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ software.
Simcenter STAR-CCM+ makes simulation accessible to process engineers with limited simulation experience but strong process knowledge. Combined with Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Mixing Vessel Workflow, a dedicated tool for mixing, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ offers a virtual process design and development platform. There is no doubt about the value it will bring to the business:
The insight gained from simulation is now accessible to a much wider set of engineers. This flood of knowledge and skills will make the industry more cost efficient, less polluting and ultimately more innovative.
